North Yorkshire
construction company Houseman and Falshaw has completed a new
headquarters for Ilkley-based Spooner Industries.
The complete £3.5
million scheme involved the construction of a new base for the
long-established engineering company on land at Railway Road
adjacent to its former site which is to be redeveloped. Spooner
Industries is an Original Equipment Manufacturer, supplying
dryers, ovens, coolers and oxidisers to a range of industries
including paper, converting, food and metals.
The 56,000 sq ft
development comprises a factory, test and R&D centre, modern
office and visitor facilities for Spooner, which exports all over
the world. The company is one of Ilkley’s biggest employers, with
more than 100 staff.
Spooner Industries was
established in 1932 by Ilkley resident William Wycliffe Spooner
and has been on its present site since the early 1950s.
Houseman and Falshaw,
based at Copgrove, near Harrogate, specialises in construction for
a wide range of sectors. Recent projects have included a new
Doncaster head office building for furniture giant DFS; a new
